Create and publish an event
Complete the event editor and see the resident result.
Before you start: Sign in to the real Admin Portal. Your Community Admin must have given you access to this area.
How to use this lesson
Read the instruction, then look at the pointer on the example screen. Click or tap Next below when you are ready. The example screen is a demonstration. It cannot save, send or change anything.
“Select” means click once with a mouse, or tap once with a finger. You can go back, restart or take a break at any time.

Select “Events”
In the real Admin Portal, find Events in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.
Look at the example. Then select Next when you are ready.

Select “Events”
In the real Admin Portal, find Events in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.
Select Create event
Click Create event at the top of the page.
Select “Title”
Click or tap inside the Title box.
Enter title
Type your own details here. In this example, we have entered “Coffee morning at the Village Hall”.
Open “Local Group”
Click or tap the Local Group list to see its choices.
Select “Community Council”
Select the Local Group this event belongs to. Admins are limited to their assigned groups. Community Admins can also choose a standalone event.
Check the selection
“Community Council” is now selected in Local Group.
Open “Event Owner”
Click or tap the Event Owner list to see its choices.
Select “Alex Campbell”
Optionally assign an Event Owner to receive interest notifications and send attendee updates. This does not give them permission to edit or publish the event.

Select “Venue”
Click or tap inside the Venue box.
Enter venue
Type your own details here. In this example, we have entered “Village Hall”.
Select “Date and time”
Use the date and time control to set the actual event start. There is no end-time field in this editor.

Type your own details here. In this example, we have entered “10 October 2026, 10:30”.
Tick “Keep visible after it ends”
Turn this on only if the event should remain visible after its date. Otherwise leave it off.
Check the box is ticked
“Keep visible after it ends” is now ticked. Check this matches the choice you want.
Open “Repeat”
Click or tap the Repeat list to see its choices.
Select “Repeats weekly”
Choose Does not repeat for a one-off event. Weekly, every two weeks and monthly are also available; monthly follows the weekday’s position in the month.
Check the selection
“Repeats weekly” is now selected in Repeat.
Choose event background image
A picture is optional. Choose a wide image from your computer. Select the file on your device, then select Open or Choose in your device’s file picker.

Wait for the upload to finish. This example uses village-hall.jpg. Your device’s file picker may look different.
Position the picture
If you added a picture, drag its preview to choose the part residents will see. Use Remove image if you want to start again.
Select “Writing box”
Click inside the Writing box and write the article or event details. The first 18 words become its summary. See the separate Writing Box lessons for formatting.

Type your own details here. In this example, we have entered “Join neighbours at the Village Hall for tea, coffee and a chat. Everyone is welcome.”.
Select “Coffee”
Choose an icon for the event tile.
Check the selection
“Coffee” is now selected in Icon.
Select “Overlay colour”
Choose a colour for the layer over the image.

The selected colour is now shown. This example uses #061223. Choose a colour that keeps the wording easy to read.
Select “Darkness”
Move the Darkness slider until the title is easy to read. It ranges from 0% to 85%.

The slider now shows 70%. Check the preview before continuing.

Make sure the event title and details are readable over the picture before saving.
Select Save
Check every detail, then click Save at the bottom of the form. The newly created item is published; there is no separate publish button inside this form.
Check Publish is on
The new item is in the list. Publish shows whether residents can see it. Preview opens a public-style view without changing the item.
See the resident result
The event is available to residents. Read it through to check the information is correct.
