Manage news visibility and sticky posts

Show, hide and give a news story priority on residents’ screens.

Before you start: Sign in to the real Admin Portal. Your Community Admin must have given you access to this area.

How to use this lesson

Read the instruction, then look at the pointer on the example screen. Click or tap Next below when you are ready. The example screen is a demonstration. It cannot save, send or change anything.

“Select” means click once with a mouse, or tap once with a finger. You can go back, restart or take a break at any time.

Select “News”

In the real Admin Portal, find News in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.

Look at the example. Then select Next when you are ready.

Read all instructions together

  1. Select “News”

    In the real Admin Portal, find News in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.

  2. Switch on “Sticky”

    Use Sticky to put this article before other news. The switch saves immediately; there is no extra Save step.

  3. Check the switch is on

    “Sticky” is now on. Check this matches the choice you want.

  4. See the article first

    Sticky news appears ahead of other news. It must also be published to be visible.

  5. Switch off “Publish”

    Switch Publish off to hide this article from residents. The article stays in the portal and the change saves immediately.

  6. Check the switch is off

    “Publish” is now off. Check this matches the choice you want.

  7. Check the resident list

    The hidden article no longer appears in the resident news list. Return to News in the portal to show it again.

  8. Switch on “Publish”

    Switch Publish back on when the article is ready for residents.

  9. Check the switch is on

    “Publish” is now on. Check this matches the choice you want.

  10. The article is visible again

    The article returns to the resident list, with Sticky still applied. Switch Sticky off if it should return to normal date order.
