How alerts reach residents’ phones

See the journey from a saved alert to a phone notification and the resident app.

Before you start: Read Create and publish an alert first. This guide explains delivery; it does not send any notifications.

How to use this lesson

Read the instruction, then look at the pointer on the example screen. Click or tap Next below when you are ready. The example screen is a demonstration. It cannot save, send or change anything.

“Select” means click once with a mouse, or tap once with a finger. You can go back, restart or take a break at any time.

Step 1 of 6

Select “Alerts”

In the real Admin Portal, find Alerts in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.

Look at the example. Then select Next when you are ready.

  1. Select “Alerts”

In the real Admin Portal, find Alerts in the left-hand menu and click it. On a small screen, open the navigation menu first.

  2. Start with an active alert

After Save alert, the message appears under Active alerts. If you selected the phone notification box, the service attempts delivery to eligible registered devices.

  3. A notification can appear on the phone

Residents need to follow the community and allow notifications on their device. Appearance depends on their phone and settings. This is a labelled example, not a real warning.

  4. Open the notification

The resident taps the notification to open Community Ready. The current app opens News for the community already selected in the app. If the alert belongs to another followed community, the resident may need to switch communities.

  5. Read the active alert in the app

The alert is prominent on Home and News. Residents can still see an active alert when they open the app even if phone notifications are not allowed.

  6. The website shows it too

An active alert also appears near the top of the public community website. Switching Active off in the portal removes it from the active list.
